I just finished this simple wood desk. I found a can of "oops" paint at Lowe's in a lovely soft gray, and I couldn't wait to use it on something! The desk has obviously been well-loved, and rather than try to disguise that, I glazed the whole piece with black to highlight every ding! I think it looks like it has been weathered and worn.
