A pine box

I happened upon this little pine box at Savers a few weeks ago. It was obviously handmade, but quite nicely done. kidpics 001

It had ugly yellow rope handles, but it had the coolest latch! It told me it wanted to come home with me, and I rarely argue with furniture.

I really didn’t want to change much about my little pine box. I liked its rustic qualities, but it did need a few minor improvements.

A coat of antique walnut stain…

…front and back…

New handles I made by braiding six lengths of twine together…

I didn’t touch the latch!

But I added casters on the bottom! I have had these stashed away for at least a year (I found them inside another piece of furniture I purchased), and they’ve been waiting for new home.

I think this would make a fun coffee table, maybe!

What would you use it for?

  2. I think it would make a nice hope chest, too. :) Or also storage - like extra blankets and such - in the extra bedroom. I like what you've done. Not too much, not too little. =)

  3. Love it! As much as I would like to put my picture albums and things in there I am sure it would end up being yet another place to store toys. :)

  13. What a cute box..and adding the casters was a stroke of genius. I would never have thought of it...but now, when I find MY cute little box, I'll know to put rollers on it.:))

I am going to have to google how to cover my little foot stool. If it were smooth around the edges, no problem...but....

  16. Love this piece and I think it screams coffee table! But then again, it would be something I would love at the foot of my bed for storage with a wonderful afghan or blanket on top. And how I love the casters! They are a great addition. Love it!
