Here’s how it started out. It was a good Basset coffee table, with two drawers. I loved the plank-style wood top.
I chose to only sand the center section of the top down to bare wood. The plan was to paint the base and the “frame” of the top. Then I chose my graphic and got painting! You can see that I didn’t worry about bits and pieces of the old stain being left behind. I think it adds to the character of the finished piece.
After the lettering was painted and distressed, I stained the top with Minwax Antique Walnut, and painted the rest of the coffee table black (get it??), using Behr Ultra paint.
I kept the original hardware, including the decorative metal scrolls in the corners.
I like how the top looks like it was framed!
And of course I had to play with a couple of accessories…
So there you have it! If you want more information on how I create my tables, be sure to check out the French Chocolate table, Café table, French Twist, and the Postcard table!
This project has been featured at West Furniture Revival, Addicted 2 Decorating, and Perfectly Imperfect.

ReplyDeleteYum, Yum, Korrie!! Mixing my love of coffee and French, what could be better!!! Maybe some caramel-coated marshmallows ~ LOL!
ReplyDeleteI am working on redoing a wooden frame for a piece of my cross stitching and am torn between painting the frame a bright, cheery color or staining it. The piece has lots of colors in it, so I am thinking that staining it light would be pretty and not take away from the stitching.
Please DON'T stop! I am in love with these tables and you are inspiring my socks off! I just have to find the right piece to experiment with......even went to Salvation Army and Goodwill today looking....no luck. BLAH......DAV tomorrow 20% off on Wednesday! Say a prayer....I need my fix! LOL

Korrie girl, this is once again FABULOUS!!
ReplyDeleteYou've so inspired me. I've had an old sewing table and my night stand from when I was little, just sitting around waiting to tell me what they want to be and today....
I used your ideas on both. I can't even begin to tell you how cute they are. I'll post about them in a day or two.
Thank you for such great ideas. Your work is, well like I said.....FABULOUS!!!!
This a just wonderful!!! I went back to look at your other coffee tables to see how you got the image so big...a transparency sheet...that is genius. Do you trace the image being projected with a pencil before you paint or just paint?
ReplyDeleteSooo . . . after exploring a few pages of your blog, I'm thinking you need to make a trip to California and paint some furniture for me! I'll etch some copper for you! ;) I really, truly, seriously love your work! Gosh! Thanks for stopping by so I could 'find' YOU! :)
