This is what my kitchen looked like yesterday before dinner:
I was soooo grateful for leftovers last night!
What was I doing, you ask? Well, I was finally doing SOMEthing with a stack of cupboard doors I bought at a RE-Store closing last summer (they were about $2/each). I painted eight cupboard doors in a creamy white, and then turned them in to SIGNS inspired by Miss Mustard Seed and Miss Funky Junk!
I used my Silhouette to design the lettering for each sign.
Here's what I've come up with so far...
Here's what I've come up with so far...
The "Farmers Market" sign is huge...and probably my least favorite. I didn't care for how "flat" the black lettering looked on the white background, even after I glazed and distressed the sign. It's hard to tell, but the letters on the top row have been given a green "shadow," while the bottom letters are waiting to be done. It gave the sign some more depth and interest.
I decided, however, that I preferred white letters on a bright background. Here are some of my other completed signs!
This is the first one I tried the black shadowing on, and I really liked it, even though I didn't know what I was doing. My husband has not forgiven me for using his very-special-model paintbrushes for my signs!
Here's a completed "Farmers Market."
"Juicy Berries" was a really really bright green. With a brown glaze, it's only really.

"Fresh Cupcakes" is my favorite!
So...which one do you like?

ReplyDeleteKorrie such a perfect use for those doors and your painting skills are gorgeous. Love the words and ideas, marking this for reference.
ReplyDeleteActually the "farmer's market" is my favorite! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour signs looks great! They're all fun! I make a sign, white w/black lettering, and when distressing, I sanded the letters too and love how it softening the whole effect. But your "shadow" idea is great.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about that comment, it's way past my bedtime and my typing is terrible at this hour! :)

I have old cabinet doors at home and I am getting ready to do the very same thing! These look great! Farmer's Market is my fav!
ReplyDeleteI like them all! The white lettering really caught my eye, though. The cupcake one is really pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteFabulous signs, Korrie!
Those are such an amazing use of old doors. I love the green. So fresh and fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of making signs (for my own use) using vintage brands and saying like: Sunbeam Bread or Good to the Last Drop. Hadn't thought of using cabinet doors though. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI like 'em all. I'm a huge fan of signs! Just can't get enough.
ReplyDeleteI got some free cupboard doors last week. :) Not sure what I'll do with 'em.
Thanks for sharing @ Catch as Catch Can!

Very cute! I am a kitchen designer so my left over sample doors are often given to my creative friends who turn them into chalkboards for their kitchen "MENU"..super cute.
ReplyDeleteI did a Happy Holidays one for my front porch during Xmas, in Red, White and Black.
These are so awesome! I would love to feature these on Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle. Feel free to stop by and grab a featured button. Thanks!

I have to agree that I see a laundry sign with those doors and then a powder room, too.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea and I'm going to have to try and find me something like this to make for my house!
Outstanding! I love them ~ and the Farmers Market is beautiful I think. I'd love one for the bath ~ perhaps those loved French words? :-) Perhaps Bon Appetit for the kitchen? My head is splitting right now so I'm not very creative.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!
